Flex Workshop Primer by Kalen Gibbons

Our very own Kalen Gibbons will be leading us to Flex World in our very first Flex Workshop.  Below is his description for this beginner's workshop

It will cover basic Flex techniques and features; we will be creating a process performance monitor.  I plan on supplying sample data, and although I will be covering how to connect to ColdFusion briefly, having ColdFusion installed will not be a requisite.  There will be no ColdFusion involved, we will be skipping the back-end entirely to reduce possible configuration conflicts and other complications.  The only thing required will be Flex Builder.  I will be providing a series of sample files that we will be stepping through as we proceed through the workshop.

So don't miss our first ever Flex Workshop. Not only that, we will be raffling a spanking new copy of Adobe CS4 Web Premium edition.  As always, we will have pizza and drinks.  See you there.

November Meeting: Flex Workshop & CS4 Giveaway!

Our next meeting is coming up on Friday, November 7th, and it's shaping up to be absolutely AWESOME! The main agenda for the evening is a beginner's Flex workshop led by Kalen Gibbons -- if you've been wanting to get started with Flex development, this meeting is your opportunity to get your feet wet with hands-on instruction from an expert developer.

Kalen plans to cover basic Flex techniques and features, and will lead the group in the construction of a functional application. Adobe Flex Builder is a necessary prerequisite for the workshop, so please bring a laptop with Flex Builder already installed if you wish to participate (spectators are also welcome). We are also attempting to set up a few additional computers with Flex Builder available for anyone who can't get their hands on a laptop -- we'll have an update on this before the meeting date.

If that isn't enough incentive for you, we also have a BIG prize to raffle off: Adobe Creative Suite 4! That's right, Adobe is generously donating a copy of their flagship CS4 product suite, including Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Flash, Fireworks, Illustrator and more! This bundle retails for around $1700, so some lucky person is going to be VERY happy they decided to attend.

Finally, we are also going to be choosing a new day of the week for holding our meetings in 2009, as Fridays have proved to be difficult for people with a bit of a drive. If you have an opinion on this subject, now is the time to be heard.  Pizza and beverages will be provided, so bring your appetite, and we hope to see you there!

October Meeting: CS4 Launch

Come join us this Friday, October 3rd, to get the inside scoop on all the new features in Creative Suite 4, Adobe's flagship collection of graphic design, web development and video editing applications. We've got some Adobe schwag to give away (although we're holding back the big prize for November), including a very handy ActionScript reference guide to help out with Flash/Flex/AIR development. Starting with this meeting, free pizza and soft drinks will also be provided, so be sure to bring your appetite!
